New Cottages, Melbury Sampford

Private Contract

Work carried out on behalf of a local estate.

The existing roof coverings were failing due to the age and allowing water ingress.

As a company we are committed to the effects on the environment and we recycle as much as possible, so we sent the existing clay tiles for recycling rather than landfill.

The main roof coverings are a traditional clay plain tile produced at Imerys' Phalempin factory in northern France.

The tile is available in a unique range of mellow natural colours and with the purpose made valley tiles and ridge tiles designed to add distinction.

The tiles were fitted onto new treated and graded timber tile battens along with breathable membrane all fixed as per the manufactures specification and complying  with BS 5534. lead works to the chimney abutments was replaced with appropriately sized and coded  lead which was fabricated as necessary and dressed to detail and patination oil was applied.

All of the lead works involved were carried out by Rowsell’s fully trained operatives. Works were carried out to BS EN 12588 and as per the Lead Sheet Association Guide (LSA).

Ventilation was introduced into the loft space using ventilation at eaves level along with a dry fix vented ridge system to prevent condensation issues within the loft.
